How I Saved for a Vacation in Just 90 Days

Taking a vacation felt like a distant dream. With bills, groceries, and day-to-day expenses, setting aside money for travel always ended up on the back burner. But this time, I made it my mission to take a well-deserved break—without going into debt. I gave myself 90 days, a clear goal, and a plan that actually worked.

I started by picking my destination and setting a realistic budget. I factored in everything—flights, accommodation, food, transport, and a little buffer for fun. Once I had the number in front of me, I broke it down into weekly savings goals. Saving a large amount felt overwhelming, but smaller weekly targets made it achievable.

Next, I combed through my spending. I cut out non-essentials like takeout, extra subscriptions, and impulse buys. Instead of weekend coffee runs, I brewed my own. I paused all online shopping and created a “wishlist” instead—if I still wanted something after my trip, I’d consider it then. Most of those things? I never looked at again.

I also made some quick side cash to speed up the savings. I sold unused items—old clothes, gadgets, and even furniture I didn’t need. I did small freelance gigs online and took a few pet-sitting jobs on weekends. Every bit of extra income went directly into my vacation fund.

To stay motivated, I tracked my progress visually. I made a simple chart and colored it in each time I reached a new milestone. Watching it fill up gave me a sense of pride and kept me focused, especially on tough days.

By the time the 90 days were up, not only had I reached my savings goal—I actually went a little over. The best part? I enjoyed my vacation guilt-free, knowing I didn’t put a single dollar on a credit card.

This experience taught me that with intention, consistency, and a clear plan, even big dreams can fit into small budgets. That trip wasn’t just a break from routine—it was proof that I could make anything happen when I put my mind to it.
